Double Up Food Bucks
Anyone using SNAP is eligible for Double Up Food Bucks. If you purchase $1 of fruits or vegetables, you get another $1 worth of FREE fruits and vegetables (up to $20 per day).
Aquaponics Greenhouse
Dahlia Campus operates an aquaponics greenhouse where we grow produce and fresh fish year-round.
Aquaponics is a sustainable farming solution that recirculates water from fish tanks through vegetable grow beds.
Nutrients from the fish waste feed the plants and the plants filter the water to keep the fish healthy.
Market Farm
Dahlia Market Farm grows over 30 different kinds of vegetables including your favorites like tomatoes, cucumbers and okra. If you like what we grow, tell us. If you’d like to see us grow something missing, tell us that too.
The farmers use regenerative agricultural practices, such as cover crop, integrated pest management and crop rotation to keep our soil and produce healthy. Many of these practices are rooted in Indigenous wisdom and African American heritage.
The farmers also acknowledge current science best practices and always seek to combine generational knowledge with modern science and technology to aid in climate resilience.
All of this results in a farm that is beautiful and productive. Your Dahlia farmers hope you take some time to walk around the farm, stop and chat and take in the sights and sounds of the Farm!
Alcove Gardens
The alcove gardens are accessible to all people we serve, community members and staff. Here you will find perennial and annual herbs and flowers. Many of these plants are U-Pick. Please read the signs to know how best to harvest them. This garden space is currently maintained by your Dahlia farmers, and volunteers. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to Shannon Hourigan, garden wellness coordinator.
Therapy Garden
The therapy garden is maintained by the garden wellness coordinator. The programming and activities offered here include plantings by Skyline Academy and Sewall Child Development Center students. The plants you can find in the therapy garden are intended to evoke sensory experiences. It is a peaceful space that can be enjoyed by anyone. This garden is ever-evolving to meet the needs of the people we serve.
Garden Wellness Program
The intention of the garden wellness program is to make the farms and gardens accessible to folks receiving services at Dahlia, those in the community, and staff. Seasonal scavenger hunts, pop-up gardening events, group activities, and wild-crafting opportunities are available for your use. Check our calendar or reach out to Shannon Hourigan for more information.
